  • Skip caffeine and nicotine for at least an hour
  • Book a morning time if you're fasting
  • Wear short or loose sleeves

Have ready

Applicant FAQ

Does the exam cost me anything?

No. The exam is part of your insurance application and you are not charged for it.

What happens during the exam?

Your examiner confirms your identity, records your height, weight, blood pressure and pulse, goes through health history questions, and collects what your insurance company requires, which can include blood, urine or an EKG.

Who sees my results?

Your specimens go to the insurance company's lab and your results go only to the insurance company. Many insurers will share your lab results with you if you ask them.

I need to reschedule. What do I do?

Call or text your coordinator at the number in your confirmation, or send us a message. Please give us as much notice as you can.

Is my examiner qualified?

Every SpelMed examiner is a credentialed clinician or certified phlebotomist with verified experience, a background check and our own competency check before their first exam.
